Polyamides are the most widely used family of engineering plastics, offering high mechanical strength, wear resistance and thermal performance. PA66 has a higher melting temperature than PA6.
Glass fibre reinforcement markedly raises stiffness and heat deflection temperature. Polyamides are highly hygroscopic; since moisture uptake affects dimensions and mechanical properties, drying and storage conditions must be followed strictly.
