Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most widely used thermoplastics thanks to its low density, broad chemical resistance and favourable cost. In engineering applications, mineral or glass fibre reinforced PP compounds are used instead of neat PP to raise stiffness and thermal performance significantly.

LG Chem's LUPOL family consists of specialised PP compounds developed for automotive interior and exterior trim, industrial components and electrical parts. Talc filled, glass fibre reinforced and elastomer modified types offer different stiffness-toughness balances.

One of PP's biggest advantages is its low specific gravity, delivering clear weight savings versus engineering plastics at the same volume. It is therefore frequently considered in automotive lightweighting programmes.
