PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) is a semi-crystalline polyester that stands out among engineering plastics for its electrical insulation performance. Its fast crystallisation allows moulding at short cycle times, which is a significant cost advantage in series production.

LG Chem's LUPOX and LUMAX families — with flame retardant, glass fibre reinforced and high flow grades — are widely used in automotive electrics, connectors, relays, coil bobbins and appliance components.

PBT's dimensional stability and much lower moisture uptake compared with polyamides are the main reasons it is preferred for precision electrical parts. Drying before processing is still required; the drying conditions in the TDS must be followed to avoid molecular weight loss through hydrolysis.
