Polycarbonate (PC) is one of the leading engineering thermoplastics, combining high impact strength with optical clarity thanks to its amorphous structure. Despite its glass-like transparency, its impact resistance is far higher, which makes it the material of choice for safety glazing, protective equipment and lighting applications.

LG Chem's LUPOY brand offers a wide grade range, from standard transparent types to flame retardant, UV stable and glass fibre reinforced formulations. Automotive lighting, electrical and electronic housings, medical device enclosures and appliance parts are the most common applications.

Polycarbonate is hygroscopic; drying under suitable conditions before processing is critical for surface quality and mechanical performance. Drying temperature, time and moulding parameters vary by grade, so the TDS of the specific grade should always be used as the reference.
